“The Rise or Fall of America”
“‘The Lord will roar from on high,
And utter His voice from His holy habitation;
He will roar mightily against His fold.
He will give a shout, as those who tread the grapes,
Against all the inhabitants of the earth.
A noise will come to the ends of the earth—
For the Lord has a controversy with the nations;
He will plead His case with all flesh.
He will give those who are wicked to the sword,’ says the Lord.” Jeremiah 25:30-31
Simmering beneath the political caldera of the American landscape is a turbulent, volcanic, racial magma. This March Madness, like tectonic plates of discontent, began to gyrate, exposing fissures which exploded in vociferant towers of volcanic ash that could be seen throughout the continental USA – with dust particles darkening horizons around the globe.
“God damn America, God damn America, not God bless America” – like a Krakatoa going off – shattering the already fragile discourse within the Democratic Party, and spewing over via the Internet and mainstream media, talk shows and into the workplace of millions.
The BIG ONE went off the Richter scale – Tsunamis traveling at break-neck speed crashed into the resorts of our Great Society and the shores of our fragility crumbled under the weight of caustic expressions, super-heated, super-stressed, by decades build-up for the one we knew was there but hoped would never happen.
The syncopated but rhythmic sounds of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright thundered from the pulpit of South Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ in a crescendo of bombasts crying out against social injustice perpetrated by entrenched racism fed by white elites determined to suppress the black man’s burden by belaboring economic inequality wherein the rich get richer and the squalid poor continue unabated in their impoverishment, year after year after year, filling our prisons—virtually marginalized to “the other side of the street” where “a typical white person” wants them.
Stereotypes flashed, exceptions disappeared under the seething anger and intolerance sustained against them who “traffic in the bodies and souls of men” (Rev. 18:13) for gain—and have not the human nor spiritual acumen to know the difference between moral responsibility and bestial turpitude. Yes, in his context, Rev. Wright may have gone over the top—but underlying his outrage there is a Babylon so Great, that to deny its abominations is to enshrine her fornications as undefiled temple worship, when any reasonable soul knows that her cup is “full of putridity and the filthiness of the fornication of the earth!” (Rev. 17:4)
Yes, I have cut to the chase, and blamed the entire political fiasco upon the same clique “full of abominations” which, if the layers of rhetoric descending from Rev. Wright’s pulpit were stripped from the media’s feeding frenzy, would reveal behind the scenes the same culprits who from the Gate of God – Babel’s Tower – have enslaved humankind. Race is but a ruse to disguise, a deflection, to camouflage their ill-gotten gain and to maintain the King of Tyre’s paradise. For was it not this same filth which brought our house to disrepute and civil war?
Somehow we’ve forgotten that “economics” and “commerce” were at the nexus of our time of shame and rank contention – all along we contrived that race for gain was suitable to both South and North! Alas! It was the North who demanded that the Negro bore but 3/5ths of a vote – it was the North whose farmers finally realized that their crops were fast approaching the demise of the Southern plantation and, ipso facto, their economic independence was threatened—that was their call to arms; and, it was the North who profited from the Antebellum South’s cheap labor so that their New England mills could produce Northern wealth. Ah, yes, these dirty little secrets, festering deep down inside the soul of the Rev. Wright, must needs be released—but their analysis by pundit and preacher is masked by the Merchants of the Earth who control the media elites and blame the racial divide as the root cause of our rage . . . when all along the DNA matches “your merchants (who) were the great men of the earth” (Revelation 18:23). Meanwhile, the best offense degenerates into racial slurs; all the while “your soul longed . . . all the things which are rich and splendid” (Rev. 18:14) create their defense and nigh commence their whimpering, lest the truth be told from the same pulpits contaminated by her apostasies!
FREDERICK DOUGLASS AND BABYLON THE GREAT –
Long after the evangelical, William Wilberforce, made the British Empire recant of her slave trade (1807/1833), America was caught in the economic plunder of the body and souls of her partial peoples! (Excerpts)
Fellow citizens, pardon me, and allow me to ask, why am I called upon to speak here today? What have I or those I represent to do with your national independence? Are the great principles of political freedom and of natural justice, embodied in that Declaration of Independence, extended to us? And am I, therefore, called upon to bring our humble offering to the national altar, and to confess the benefits, and express devout gratitude for the blessings resulting from your independence to us?
Would to God, both for your sakes and ours, that an affirmative answer could be truthfully returned to these questions. Then would my task be light, and my burden easy and delightful. For who is there so cold that a nation's sympathy could not warm him? Who so obdurate and dead to the claims of gratitude that would not thankfully acknowledge such priceless benefits? Who so stolid and selfish that would not give his voice to swell the hallelujahs of a nation's jubilee, when the chains of servitude had been torn from his limbs? I am not that man. In a case like that, the dumb might eloquently speak, and the "lame man leap as an hart."
But such is not the state of the case. I say it with a sad sense of disparity between us. I am not included within the pale of this glorious anniversary! Your high independence only reveals the immeasurable distance between us. The blessings in which you this day rejoice are not enjoyed in common. The rich inheritance of justice, liberty, prosperity, and independence bequeathed by your fathers is shared by you, not by me. The sunlight that brought life and healing to you has brought stripes and death to me. This Fourth of July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn. To drag a man in fetters into the grand illuminated temple of liberty, and call upon him to join you in joyous anthems, were inhuman mockery and sacrilegious irony. Do you mean, citizens, to mock me, by asking me to speak today? If so, there is a parallel to your conduct.
And let me warn you, that it is dangerous to copy the example of a nation (Babylon) whose crimes, towering up to heaven, were thrown down by the breath of the Almighty, burying that nation in irrecoverable ruin.
Fellow citizens, above your national, tumultuous joy, I hear the mournful wail of millions, whose chains, heavy and grievous yesterday, are today rendered more intolerable by the jubilant shouts that reach them. If I do forget, if I do not remember those bleeding children of sorrow this day, "may my right hand forget her cunning, and may my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth!"
To forget them, to pass lightly over their wrongs and to chime in with the popular theme would be treason most scandalous and shocking, and would make me a reproach before God and the world.
Whether we turn to the declarations of the past, or to the professions of the present, the conduct of the nation seems equally hideous and revolting. America is false to the past, false to the present, and solemnly binds herself to be false to the future. Standing with God and the crushed and bleeding slave on this occasion, I will, in the name of humanity, which is outraged, in the name of liberty, which is fettered, in the name of the Constitution and the Bible, which are disregarded and trampled upon, dare to call in question and to denounce, with all the emphasis I can command, everything that serves to perpetuate slavery -- the great sin and shame of America! "I will not equivocate - I will not excuse." I will use the severest language I can command, and yet not one word shall escape me that any man, whose judgment is not blinded by prejudice, or who is not at heart a slave-holder, shall not confess to be right and just.
And you think the Rev. Jeremiah Wright is an extremist!
What, then, remains to be argued? Is it that slavery is not divine; that God did not establish it; that our doctors of divinity are mistaken? There is blasphemy in the thought. That which is inhuman cannot be divine. Who can reason on such a proposition? They that can, may - I cannot. The time for such argument is past.
At a time like this, scorching irony, not convincing argument, is needed. Oh! Had I the ability, and could I reach the nation's ear, I would today pour out a fiery stream of biting ridicule, blasting reproach, withering sarcasm, and stern rebuke. For it is not light that is needed, but fire; it is not the gentle shower, but thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake. The feeling of the nation must be quickened; the conscience of the nation must be roused; the propriety of the nation must be startled; the hypocrisy of the nation must be exposed; and its crimes against God and man must be denounced.
What to the American slave is your Fourth of July? I answer, a day that reveals to him more than all other days of the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mock; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are to him mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy - a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation of the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of these United States at this very hour.
Go search where you will, roam through all the monarchies and despotisms of the Old World, travel through South America, search out every abuse and when you have found the last, lay your facts by the side of the everyday practices of this nation, and you will say with me that, for revolting barbarity and shameless hypocrisy, America reigns without a rival. (Frederick Douglass, The Hypocrisy of American Slavery, Rochester, New York, July 4, 1852)
Ah! But you declare the progress of our species, the evolution of our society, the transformation wrought by our technologies—all the while America imprisons more souls per capita (7 million behind bars, probation, parole – China 1.5 million) than any other nation on earth! A land of laws, rules and regulations; where freedom is a glorious word . . . yes, the system must be working – we are so incredibly successful at it! America’s total slave population in 1860 was 3,953,760 out of nigh 32,000,000 or, sad to say, about 1 in 9 of its population—whereas 7 million out of a little over 300 million approximates 1 in 43 – so, we’ve come a long ways! A rather bizarre comparison, but well-suited for the awful contrast. Oh, and you’d be amazed why this little contrast was used—because, much to our wretched shame WE’VE NEVER ABOLISHED SLAVARY IN AMERICA!
AMERICAN SLAVARY HAS NEVER BEEN ABOLISHED!
teaches us that slavery was abolished in the United States after the Civil War.
History has taught us wrong.
Slavery was never abolished in the United States. Go ahead, take a look at the Constitution. The 13th Amendment reads as follows:
“Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude except as a punishment for a crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted shall exist within the United States.”
That means that if you’ve been
convicted of a crime, you are legally allowed to be a slave.
The prison industrial complex is big business in this country, and the U.S. government and corporations are reaping the rewards. Private companies are not only operating prisons but are also using prisoners as workers without paying wages, a practice known as slavery.
The largest private prison operator is called Correction Corporations of America; it operates over 30 prisons nationwide (a number that will soon double when every state prison in Tennessee goes private). Prison bonds provide a lucrative return for capitalist investors.
The following are just a fraction of the companies using slave labor: IBM, Motorola, Compaq, Texas Instruments, Honeywell, Microsoft, Boeing, Revlon, Chevron, TWA, Victoria’s Secret, Eddie Bauer, K-mart, J.C. Penny, and McDonald’s.
Products bought by the U.S government are bought from UNICOR, which is the trade name for Federal Prisons Industries. Yes, prisoners even build desks for members of Congress. UNICOR proudly displays on its web site that it is “where the government shops first.”
This isn’t about making the streets safe; it’s about money and a never-ending supply of cheap labor.
State corrections agencies are advertising their prisoners to the corporations: “Are you experiencing high employee turnover? Worried about the costs of employee benefits? Unhappy with out-of-state or offshore suppliers? Getting hit by overseas competition? Having trouble motivating your workforce? Thinking about expansion space? Then Washington State Department of Corrections Private Sector Partnerships is for you.”
(Michael Schwartz—UCLA student, Prisons, Slave Labor Factories)
Oh, and it gets much worse – these dirty little secrets are but America’s legacy and her enthrallment with cheap labor – the trafficking in the bodies and souls of men . . .
It took 150 years for California
to build 10 state prisons. But the state has built 21 prisons in the last 10
years alone (only one state university has been built in that time) and this
trend isn’t stopping. With the three strikes law in effect the state estimates
it will have to build 20 more prisons over the next 10 years. (Editor’s Note: A
bit taxing and somewhat burdensome, but truly needed, given the burgeoning
prison population and all….)
Where does racism come into view? Seventy percent of those being sentenced under the three strikes law in California are people of color. And nationally, 39 percent of African American men in their 20s are in prison, on probation, or on parole. White people make up 82 percent of the nation’s population, yet prisons house 72 percent people of color. (Ibid.)
And, it can all be justified (so was American slavery of old) – because we’re dealing with criminals and murderers who should be imprisoned and pay for their crimes against the state! (“Before you start thinking about those “violent” people, listen to some facts: In federal prisons, only 2.4 percent of the prisoners are there for violent crimes.” – Ibid.) Right about now there’s still time for one more chorus of “GOD BLESS AMERICA!” Listen, we’re not talking about a small cottage industry going on here—we’re talking about BILLIONS OF DOLLARS being made off slavery in the prisons—a HUGE INDUSTRY which is alive and doing very well, thank you! THE DISPARITY OF WEALTH IN THE LATTER DAYS – “TOUCH NOT THE OIL AND WINE”
We’re now moving from the mundane to the sublime. After all, high crimes and misdemeanors are a lot more interesting than making furniture and the like on the cheap. Dene McGriff’s latest articles have attempted to highlight, but the tip of the iceberg, the current financial dislocation taking place in America wherein immense sums of wealth (literally trillions of dollars) are being heaped up by the ultra wealthy – especially by those investment bankers known as the “sub-prime bandits” on Wall Street and their ilk—you know, the elites we’re suppose to admire for the abounding risks they take in order to keep us all in clover. Forbid, without them all, we’d be unemployed and underemployed!
Is there no shame to their quest for “oil and wine”? The Scriptures declare the scarcity revealed under the Third Seal of the apocalypse – that Black Horse of scarcity and disparity, whose shriveled appearance resembles the grief and wailing heard by the Merchants of the Earth in Revelation 18—you know, those who bewail Great Babylon’s demise and the subsequent wealth she provided them all!
“When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, ‘Come and see.’ So I looked, and behold a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales (lit. balances) in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, ‘A quart (Grk. choinix, about 1 quart) of wheat for a denarius (about 1 day’s wage for a worker), and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine” (Rev. 6:5-6).
What a graphic have we here! Wheat – perhaps enough to secure one loaf of the staff of life – costs you, with inflated “dollars” (i.e., denarius), – an entire day’s wages; but, if you wish to mix it with cheap barley, you’ll get three quarts for the same price: SUCH A DEAL! You think the price of food is over the top today—you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!
And, what of the “oil and the wine” – what of those luxury items which are priced out of the market? Ah! They’ll always be available – but for whom? You guessed it – the privileged and the opulently wealthy – and how opulent? Take a look at the disappearance of America’s so-called Middle Class – which, compared to the world’s populations – has lived in gravy for decades, only to see their share of the pie deteriorate as the elites continue to amass unbelievable quantities of the earth’s resources! Below – 70% of all US wealth is held by 10% of the population and 1% has roughly, today, around 50% of all US wealth!
It astounds how the “wealth” is allocated – and how the DEBT is as well:
Currently, at this instant, the total federal debt is about $22 trillion consisting of: $9,394,932,843,911 -National Debt is $12.8 Trillion borrowed and spent from Social Security (leaving it pay-as-you-go) with a 77 million baby-boomer bubble approaching; $450 billion Pension Benefit Guaranty debt and several hundred billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Katrina, Medicare, etc.
And total nation-wide personal debt is over $20 trillion.
And total state and local government debt is about $6 trillion.
So, all together, the total current U.S. debt (nation-wide) is about $53 trillion (in 2007 dollars), which has never been worse ever, including as a percentage of GDP ($13.86 Trillion in year 2007).
The total federal debt of $22 trillion has actually never been larger (ever).
In World War II, the ratio of the total federal debt-to-GDP reached 116% of GDP. But, the government paid off most of it by 1976 (see the black-line with the black-square dots on the debt chart below for the debt in 2005 dollars):
After 1976 (or about) is when many things started to unravel in the United States.
Now, with a total of $22 trillion of federal debt, and a GDP of $13.86 trillion, the Debt-to-GDP is now 159%! (i.e., $22T / $13.86T).
The fiscal outlook is not good. And the timing for all this massive debt could not be worse, with 77 million baby boomers that will start drawing from Social Security and Medicare. The aging of America is a factor too.
So, the total current (this day) federal debt is now about $22 trillion and growing to nightmarish proportions (as does the size of government).
The interest alone on the $9.4 trillion National Debt is over $1 billion per day, and the National Debt is growing by about $2 billion per day! The interest alone could exceed $43 trillion (in 2005 dollars), if we stopped borrowing and started paying $1.05 billion per day (which would take 153 years, provided interest rates did not go any higher than 4.5%).
And, there is another ever-present, insidious scheme at work too: Inflation
This is over-looked by many that do not understand how it hurts them. Our fiat-funny-money monetary system especially hurts savers and those on fixed incomes, who find the value of their dollars steadily being eroded by the Federal Reserve's (a quasi-government controlled / privately owned bank system) irresponsible, intentional, non-stop printing presses. (From: ONE SIMPLE IDEA)
And, dear friend – NONE OF THIS compares to the world’s impoverished who clamor to enter Babylon’s sacred walls – for their disparity, compared to ours, is so extreme that it pales into insignificance our lack of equilibrium.
THE FALSE GOSPEL OF PROSPERITY & SUCCESS
Perhaps NEVER has there been or shall be a more blatant grab to justify personal wealth and success than by today’s peddlers of the “prosperity gospel!”
The current of the age prevails! The incessant and nauseating clamor for more and more “Christian radio and TV” which promotes “responsible Christian stewardship” – which is naught but a fraud to conceal the real intent of these charlatans and creeps who justify the alleged believer’s quest for wealth and prosperity – has become the mouth and mantra of the Laodicean Church of the latter days.
I find it disingenuous and disconcerting – although I must admit it’s about time – that the Congress of these United States, after scores and scores of legitimate complaints from countless brethren ripped off by these preachers and so-called expositors of a better day for God’s people in the Kingdom called the American Church, has continued its investigations into these same shameful pundits and the personal gain they have amassed through the abuse of the Word of God and the deceitfulness of riches – although most of these frauds are not cooperating with the governments investigations!
They will, perhaps at the blood-soaked hands of a less than suspect Congress, get their immediate comeuppance – but I seriously doubt that, given their pitiful pleas for the separation of Church and State (when it suits their own gainful purposes) and their estranged appeal to the Internal Revenue Service as their court of last resort!
What on earth and why on earth do we abide their distorted gospel? . . . A gospel which has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Man who said:
“Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have their nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head!” (Matthew 8:20; Luke 9:58)
And, so it was, is and evermore shall be:
According to Grassley's office,
the Iowa Republican is trying to determine whether or not these ministries are
improperly using their tax-exempt status as churches to shield lavish
The six ministries identified as being under investigation by the committee are led by: Paula White, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, Eddie Long, Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn. Three of the six - Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland and Creflo Dollar - also sit on the Board of Regents for the Oral Roberts University.
MinistryWatch.com has so detailed and exposed these charlatans, that to belabor their abuses—notwithstanding any of the good they may have done in the Name of the King of Kings—actually is altogether egregiously superfluous.
MinistryWatch.com has exposed these ostentatious revelations of their despicable life-styles, that even the rich and famous blush—so tragically distant from anything resembling our Lord Jesus Christ is their deceit! We must appeal to the Almighty Who alone will, on that day, rail from His Throne in utter disgust at their fraud and how they have imbibed from the cup of her filthiness and expanded her fornications.
WOE TO THEM who for filthy lucre make gain of the Word of God – WOE TO THEM who drag the Scriptures down this path of connivance and corruption – WOE TO THEM whose God is their belly and whose lips are full of lies. They have taken to their cleaners the hopeless and hapless – the widow and the poor – and made a mockery of the claims of Christ over them by robbing them of what little they have to engorge themselves in wealth’s allurements and deceits! They do NOT represent the Kingdom of God – they are an abomination to the Savior, a shame to His Name!
They express the image of the KING OF TYRE – the one who was CAUGHT UP IN HIS BEAUTY; enamored with the pleasant things of this world. All the kingdoms of the world have been extended to them and they have freely taken the serpent’s bait. Yes – they have sold out to the devil – they have “made merchandise of the Word of God” – and, they persist in their false gospel of wealth and success to this day! All their giving from their grotesque abundance only decries how awful is the stench of their supposed sacrifice which ascends to the heavens—it is an abomination in the nostrils of Him with Whom we have to do!
What drives these deceivers who masquerade as Servants of the Lord, is the bewitching allure to imbibe her cup of gold which is full of putridity and the abominations of the earth—but their spiritual taste buds are so numb from feasting at her banquet that they can no more discern that the chalice from which they drink holds not the wine of His pleasure but Satan’s sewer water . . . not even disguised, but in its full and disgusting concentration! Indeed, may God Almighty have mercy upon their wretched souls and judge their works for what they are. They have their reward but at His judgment seat, as we all, their “wood, hay and stubble” shall be burned with unquenchable fire!
BUT AMERICA IS NOT IN BIBLE PROPHECY
Those of you who have read through the chapters to this most torrid description—THE DAMNING OF AMERICA—must know full-well that to dismiss with Babylon the Great’s whereabouts at the close of this age, belies your own, their own, ignorance of God’s Holy Word which is NOT wont in the evolution and ultimate manifestation of this Great City. How dare we twist the Scriptures to lay claim to Babylon’s pleasures!
Why do you persist in declaring her glories – when she corrupts the whole earth? Why do you extract from her your purposes when God Almighty has deemed her exposures and pending judgments so clearly?
“Babylon was a golden cup in the Lord’s hand, that made all the earth drunk.
The nations drank her wine; therefore the nations are deranged.
Babylon was suddenly fallen and been destroyed.
Wait for her!
Take balm for her pain; perhaps she may be healed.
We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed.
Forsake her, and let us go everyone to his own country;
For her judgment reaches to heaven and is lifted up to the skies.
The Lord has revealed our righteousness.
Come and let us declare in Zion the work of the Lord our God.
O you who dwell by many waters, abundant in treasures.
Your end has come, the measure of your covetousness.
The Lord of hosts has sworn by Himself:
‘Surely I will fill you with men, as with locusts,
And they shall lift up a shout against you.’
‘Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain,
Who destroys all the earth,’ says the Lord.
‘And I will stretch out My hand against you,
Roll you down from the rocks, and make you a burnt mountain.
They shall not take from you a stone for a corner
Nor a stone for a foundation, but you shall be desolate forever,’ says the Lord.
Therefore behold, the days are coming
That I will bring judgment on the carved images of Babylon;
Her whole land shall be ashed, and all her slain shall fall in her midst.
Then the heavens and the earth and all that is in them shall sing joyously over Babylon;
For the plunderers shall come to her from the north,’ says the Lord.
Though Babylon were to mount up to heaven,
And though she were to fortify the height of her strength,
Yet from Me plunderers would come to her, says the Lord.
(Excerpts from Jeremiah 51)
And lest you so blithely assume that the Prophet Jeremiah rails upon history’s Nebuchadnezzar, then wherefore does the Apostle of the Apocalypse take up her lament?
1 After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory.
2 And he cried mightily[a] with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird!
3 For all the nations have drunk
of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have
committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich
through the abundance of her luxury.”
4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached[b] to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.
6 Render to her just as she rendered to you,[c] and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her.
7 In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’
8 Therefore her plagues will come in one day—death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges[d] her.
9 “The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning,
10 standing at a distance for fear
of her torment, saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city!
For in one hour your judgment has come.’
11 “And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore:
12 merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble;
13 and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men.
14 The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have gone from you,[e] and you shall find them no more at all.
15 The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
16 and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls!
17 For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.’ Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance
18 and cried out when they saw the
smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What is like this great city?’
19 “They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she is made desolate.’
20 “Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles[f] and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!”
21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore.
22 The sound of harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters shall not be heard in you anymore. No craftsman of any craft shall be found in you anymore, and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you anymore.
23 The light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore, and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived.
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth.”
Ah, but America is not mentioned in Bible prophecy . . .
Age of Innocence
The situation’s critical and impossible to ignore
Loose the arrows / raise the flags
We need to fight another war
Forget about the reasons
It’s time to abuse the powers we’ve been given
These are the thoughts of selfishness and greed
Everything that you could imagine of destruction
Has been conceived already
But no one’s ready to die
No one’s even close
Can they see the light?
This confrontation hourglass is running low on sand
The winds of rage and the storms of change
Are covering the land
Forget about the children
The age of all this innocence is ending
These are the thoughts of selfishness and greed
Everything that you could imagine of destruction
Has been conceived already
But no one’s ready to die
Shall we make our coffins for the dawn?
What will it take for us to carry on?
In order to live in peace there must be casualties
Only the wealthy survive
They say they love everyone
But really they’re looking out for number one
These are the thoughts of selfishness and greed
Everything that you could imagine of destruction
Has been conceived already
But no one’s ready to die
